    Most attacks widen your hitbox, even if the move itself doesn't give the appearance that it does.

    Yeah, it's the pufferfish effect - your hitbox swells MASSIVELY if you are attacking and verticals that you've stepped will counter hit you. It's important that you let the vertical safely whiff before you initiate your own attack.
