I think there are a lot of non-tournament players who don't know what they're on about, so some people start to generalise and fall into this elitist attitude. I've spoken to a few of them though and they're not all like this, most are actually keen to bring "casuals" into the tourney scene.

Leo728, there are multiple reasons for this. Some are compartmentalizing the issue. For example, if someone thinks only pro players know what they are talking about, then It gives excuses to overlook valid arguments. Which a lot of people want to do because they are more into strengthening their own beliefs rather than logically looking at the argument.
