Tiers are relevant in high level play - they are never relevant in mid-low level play. I think the main thing to keep in mind here is that tiers aren't developed. They won't be for at least another few months.

Tiers are never completely irrelevant. Tiers are just misunderstood right now. A couple characters are undoubtedly spot on in community view. However, quite a few people have been saying Tira and Pat are massively underrated before EVO. EVO came up - and it turns out its true.

I don't agree with you, at all.
Soul Calibur V is balanced, and I think people on this site are FAR too stuck in their ways. Stuck in their concepts and ideas that have applied to past games.

Every character is viable in Soul Calibur. This is proved time and time again, but people are just too stubborn to realize it, and want to make excuses for their personal play with talk of 'tiers'. That's what it comes down to.
In my opinion, if every character is viable, there's no point, *at all* to talk about tiers.

Ahaha, You misunderstand. I never have made a case for the tier list to be a scapegoat. Tier lists are relevant, but they're not to be used as a "oh, hey, I lost cause he's high tier, derp" kind of thing. Tier lists are a measure of how good characters are, kind of like matchup charts. If you have a bad matchup you may want to pick your secondary.

I'm not "stuck in my ways," I'm just not ignorant enough to say that tier lists aren't relevant. They are, just not to the point people think they are. Sure, anyone can be used early in the game's life. It won't be until later that we find out that some characters absolutely don't work. SC is a relatively balanced game - but it's not perfect by any means.

How can people continue to promote the idea of a tier list mattering, where anybody's 'opinion' on tiers is shot down time and time again.

Barring tira (who was actually considered strong by many long before EVO) the top 8 wasn't contradicting tier lists at all.
We had Asta, Alpha, Pat, Cervy and Mitsu - chars that are considered as some of the strongest.

The game is very well balanced, to the point that you can play practically anybody and have a good shot at winning but saying they don't matter at all strikes me as wrong. You know its easy to say tiers don't matter when you play mitsurugi but when you look at chars like raph or ezio, things don't look as bright.

I know it doesn't look bright *because* I main Mitsu, and because of that only.
People can say that's why I'm saying that all they want, that's also irrelevant to me.
You don't see me bitching when playing Yoshi and losing to any of those characters. I don't cry about specific brave edges or moves, because everything has a counter in this game. I say "Oh, I probably should have done this, or that..."

By that logic, Ezio starts popping wins, and you'll say: "Oh well Juece has always rocked Ezio, and yeah, this other guy too. There was talk of Ezio being great before this...didn't defy tier list!"
It's a joke man. You're only proving my point. You know most people would have said Tira was garbage before this, even though of course there are exceptions to that.
