Remember back in the old days of gaming when...
- There were no saved progress or passwords, just high scores.
- Save files were saved on the game's cartridge. Some for only a limited amount of time before the battery runs out and all of your progress was gone.
- There were no save files, just passwords. Sometimes irritatingly long passwords. Also, level select cheats.
- Games had cheat codes. They're not much of a thing these days. Now, you have to pay to cheat.
- Disk-based systems had no internal storage, so memory cards were a thing. Nowadays, they still kind of are when your internal storage runs full.
- Controllers had wired connections. There were wireless controllers, but were not the standard until the 7th generation of gaming. Wired controllers still exist, but are largely uncommon. At least you won't trip over wires as often.
- Portable gaming devices needed wired-connections for multi-player. Try not to get tangled up.
- Portable gaming devices were powered by alkaline batteries. You can't put that on a charger, so finish things up before the batteries die!
- Portable gaming devices had no sleep mode. There were only two states: on and off.
- Games couldn't be patched. They stay forever in the state they were released in. A bad game is bad forever indeed. Developers of today would be fucked.
- There was no Downloadable Content. Everything was on the disc/cartridge, you just had to unlock it.
- Games required no software updates or installations. Just put it in and play!
- No online multi-player. Got some friends nearby?
- Music on CD based-games tend to loop by fading out and starting again. Loops without fading for the WIN!
