There will always be a little Mortal Kombat in me. I also love to switch between SC and her sister game Tekken once in a while. I also found Dragonball Z Budokai very interesting and fun from a fighting game perspective. I mean, guard all button with no low attacks, or ducking high attacks? Is this a fighting game? But it is. I love the intense concentration and one-on-one feeling of fighting games. Unfortunately, there are a lot of fighting games I have wanted to play but never got the chance. I've never played Dead or Alive. Never played Vs. games. (Thinking about getting UMvC3.) Dumbly, I had the opportunity to give King of Fighters a try and didn't in favor of some other game.
I also don't understand and really dislike when people dogmatically spit out, "Super Smash Bros. is NOT a fighting game!!!!11!1!!11!!!!1!eleven!!1!" Sure it's not traditional fighting game format, but screw me if the entire focus of the gameplay isn't fighting each other and trying to knock them out. Whatever, dudes, SSB is a fighting game, and a fun one at that. More emphasis on fun than competitiveness, maybe that's why people beef on it.
I have had the priviledge of playing Virtual Fighter 4, which I really like, although it's unfair to try to compare it to Soul Calibur's God-like perfection (opinion, of course). I also hate Street Fighter with a burning passion not unlike the hatred of someone who has deeply transgressed against my family. If I have to hate a fighting game, I've found the one I hate.
Also, I have a thing where I make my somewhat non-gamer parents watch video game movies with me. I found that between TEKKEN and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, my mom loved Street Fighter while my dad preferred Tekken. Although, my mom probably loved it simply for having Kristin Kreuk in it.
