As much as I like Skyrim it is an extremely dull game to look at.

I know exactly how you feel, man. I personally love that game so damn much, but why so shitty? XD It's probably nostalgia from wanting to be with another game sort of like Skyrim, but you don't get the results of its gameplay because the potential within it is hidden. So it comes off as a broken ass cheap retarded game. That's probably why.
