After watching the three main conferences I feel a bit let down. It was an improvement over last year's mess but so much potential was wasted.
Microsoft were doomed from the start. They couldn't reveal the new console because it would eat into the 360 sales or it just simply wasn't far enough along to be worth showing off. The only core games were shooters (except Forza) and everything else was about the crappy Kinect.
Sony had tons of games but many of them looked bland (Sony Battle Royale and the Vita spinoffs) or stupid (Wonderbook was a joke that shouldn't jave been on stage for that long). The most disappointing thing about this conference was the lack of a surpirse. It's great seeing gameplay and trailers of games we know about but there weren't any shocks that would have really hyped up the audience. I must admit that The Last Of Us and couple of other games were interesting though.
Nintendo started off strong showing how powerful and unique the Wii U is. Pikmin 3 looks like another great game in the series and the updated version of Arkham City gave me the impression that developers wouldn't just port stuff to the Wii U. After that though, the conference rapidly went downhill. A lot of time was wasted on Singing and dancing games that have grown out of control in recent years and waaaay too much time was wasted on Nintendo Land. There was also an oversaturation of Mario games with the 3DS Mario Bros being the worst of the bunch. Most disappointing though was the lack of a Retro Studios title. I was expecting it after the Nintendo Land presentation but it never came. The online of the console has potential but we'll see. Finally, it was nice seeing TTT2 coming to Wii U with a few Nintendo items thrown in but that was the few things that stood out for me.
