Di: How would you describe SOULCALIBUR V in one sentence?
Akire: “A completely different Soulcalibur”, I think. The game is more nervous because of the characters’ movement. Even Asta has a good sidestep and backdash now. Soulcalibur IV was more coherent on the character movement, but that gave an impression of slowness even if attack’s speed look like the globally the same in SC4 and SC5. There is also a lot of new gameplay elements, the Critical Gauge and all stuff that imply (GI, BE and CE), Guard Burst, Just Guard and Quick Step. There are also some features like the damages received on the ground are more important than damage received standing, or the nerf of the step guard (after a side step, the guard will take more time than any other Soulcalibur to be activated). All those thing will make SOULCALIBUR V different than the series like 3rd strike is different than SFII and SFIV.
