todays music sucks

I love hard rock and metal more than any other type. (pop music, rap, or country need not ever waste their time with me) I admit I've been getting tired of the same old same old and am trying to branch out to different bands, but all these metalcore AX7 style bands make me sick (Atreyu made me wanna stab myself, and not in the way those emo freaks do). I've started listening to Dragonforce a bit (feel free to blast me I know I deserve it), the singer takes alot of getting used to but the sheer speed of the guitar work is insane.
 
isn't that entire appeal of dragonforce, and most power metal? "WOAH FUCK THEY PLAY FAST AND HERMAN LI SO GOOD"
cheesin-ass power metal gets old once the gimmick of noodling endlessly stops being amazing to ya

I thought dragon force was cool too until I heard that they speed up their recordings to make it seem like they are shredding stupidly fast. That's when I lost all respect for them and soon american music became somewhat boring to me. (Not all of it though mind you. some of it is still legit. Between the buried and me for example?) I started looking to other countries and was able to relax again. I'm not talking about all those german gothic metal bands because thats overdone as well. I listen to all types of music except for rap, r and b, and mainstream pop. When I discovered that there was a band with one of the best guitar players in japan in it and I listened to them I was speechless. They play as fast if not faster than Drangforce and sound much better when it comes to composing. I watched a concert of their's to be sure and they really do shred that fast. (This band is called Versailles) after that I turned to a band called Dir en Grey for more metal type music and I instantly loved them too. since then Japan has been my main source for music. that and France. go Emilie Simon!
 
I'm not a fan of shred-style solos because I believe them to be unmemorable and uninspired. It has to be special circumstances, and they have to be buried in a particularly good song for them to work for me. Unfortunately, this overwrites most power metal for me, as the entire point of that genre is to play as fast as possible all the time. Usually at some point during a power metal band's second album their solos turn to garbage because they run out of ideas, and their fans expect every song to have a solo.
