Not sure about the holocaust thing. I know that's one of the definitions, as Idle said though there are denotations and then there are connotations. It is usually reserved for very, very grave things, typically some kind of violent extirpation of human life. I've only ever heard it in reference to genocide and nuclear war. So I think you need to be realistic, think about how real life people are likely to see that word instead of getting technical on the dictionary definition.

Real people know that humans have canine teeth specifically for eating meat and that meat tastes the best because it's calorie rich and gives us the most nutrition.
